Anyone involved in "Ghosts of Amistad: In the Footsteps of the Rebels" is likely to look at the footage and wonder where the elders, the younger people and children are now. After all, they live in Sierra Leone, an Ebola hot spot in West Africa.

But when a small crew of filmmakers and historians traveled there in May 2013, before the outbreak, it was to trace the roots of another chapter in African history.
