Feds offer tiny window for public comment on Shell Arctic drilling

A U.S. Interior Department agency, saying “all the required components are in place,” has quietly set the clock moving on a very brief public comment period on Shell Oil’s plans to drill for oil in Arctic waters this summer.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has set a May 10, 2015, date for approving, modifying or rejecting Shell’s plans, allowing the oil giant plenty of time to proceed with plans to drill six exploratory wells in the Chukchi Sea.
