Fearless: Murdered French cartoonists welcomed controversy

Stephane Charbonnier, (l.), an editor and cartoonist at Charlie Hebdo, and Georges Wolinski, (r.), a longtime cartoonist at the publication, were among those killed.

Jean Cabut, (l.), who drew cartoons under the pen name "Cabu," and Bernard Verlhac, (r.), another of the publication's artists, were apparently sought out for execution.
