FDA to Develop Policies for Electronic Cigarettes and Nicotine Delivery Devices

The United States Food and Drug Administration aims to develop strong product standard to regulate the electronic cigarette trade and other devices used for nicotine delivery that will guard the public health and assist the agency withstand legal challenges, the agency’s tobacco chief said on Wednesday. So far the agency has adopted a regulation that restricts the sale of e-cigarettes to people below the age of 18.

Mitchell Zeller, FDA’s director in the Center for Tobacco Products said FDA is considering potential product standards in areas such as toxicity, product appeal and addiction as it gets ready to gain regulatory authority.
