FDA approves sale of Genzyme’s multiple sclerosis drug Lemtrada

On Friday, US food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved sales of a powerful multiple sclerosis drug called Lemtrada. It is an injectable drug developed by Cambridge biotech Genzyme.

Lemtrada, which is already sold in Europe, was a part of the $20.1 billion acquisition of Genzyme Corp in 2011. The drug was rejected by the FDA last December after medical experts raised concerns about its safety and the quality of clinical studies.
