FDA Approves New Vaccine To Treat Prevent Meningitis Serogroup B Infection

Last year a bunch of students at Princeton University received a meningitis vaccine. At the time, nine students had been afflicted with the meningitis group B strain at the campus. This new vaccine has now been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA made this decision on Friday and announced it immediately.

They announced the approval immediately in order to encourage students and staff at Princeton to get the new Bexsero vaccine in order to prevent further outbreak. Even at the time—last year—when the vaccine had still not been approved, the FDA agreed that it could be administered in emergency cases....
