FDA Approves Eliquis for Treatment of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Supplemental New Drug Application (sNDA) for Eliquis (apixaban) to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, and pulmonary embolism (PE), caused by blood clots that go from legs to the lungs. Pfizer Inc. and Bristol-Myers Squibb Company have announced about FDA's approval.

Boxed warnings are available in the full Prescribing Information for anticoagulant. The warnings tell about the risk of thrombotic events in the patients who stop taking Eliquis.
