FDA approves anti-clotting drug Eliquis for DVT treatment

The FDA has announced the approval of the anti-clotting drug Eliquis (apixaban) to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Eliquis was previously approved for use in lowering the risks of stroke and blood clots in certain people with atrial fibrillation.

Deep vein thrombosis refers to a blood clot that develops within a large vein, typically the leg or thigh. In some cases, a part of the blood clot breaks off and can travel through the blood stream.
