Representatives from Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc. were told that Federal Communications Commission staff oppose the cable companies’ planned merger, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
FCC officials are leaning toward concluding the merger doesn’t help consumers, said the person, who asked for anonymity because the discussions aren’t public. The FCC is joining the Justice Department, where staff is said to be leaning against the deal.
