Tonight, Stephen Colbert will end his Comedy Central show, signing off after nine successful years of playing an egotistical conservative talk-show host who shares his name. Colbert will then start preparing for the next big chapter of his life — taking over as host of "Late Show," some time after David Letterman retires on May 20. (CBS, which has tapped Colbert to host "The 37th Annual Kennedy Center Honors" that airs Dec. 30, has not announced his "Late Show" start date. But it will likely be in early fall of 2015.)
