Fabiola Gianotti will be the first woman to head CERN

CERN has announced that Fabiola Gianotti, one of the world's most prominent scientists, will become the first woman to head the Geneva-based nuclear research center that discovered the Higgs boson, also known as God Particle. Her contribution to that discovery led CERN to consider her for the position which is being currently held by director general Rolf-Dieter Heuer, 66.

Heuer is retiring as of 2016 and the 54-year-old Italian physicist would take control over the center in January 2016, the European Organization for Nuclear Research said on its website.
