Experts Say Doctors Have Ethical Obligation To Care For Their Sports Concussion Patients

In their new position paper published in Neurology, the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) calls on doctors to better safeguard athletes’ mental and physical health. The authors state it is doctors’ ethical obligation to protect athletes from sports concussions, as well as allow them to play only when they are medically ready.

AAN defines concussion as a form of brain injury which can occur when the head hits an object or is hit by a moving object; or experiences sudden force.
