Excessive alcohol consumption responsible for 88,000 deaths yearly

According to a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in 10 deaths is linked to excessive drinking among working-age adults in the United States. The CDC defines excess alcohol consumption as the following: binge drinking (5 or more drinks for men, 4 or more for women), heavy weekly alcohol consumption (15 drinks or more per week for men, 8 or more for women) and any type of alcohol consumption by pregnant women or underage (21 years or younger).

In the study, researchers used a tool to estimate total alcohol-attributable deaths and years of potential life loss in the US from 2006 to 2010.
