I was really looking forward to “Empire.” Family intrigue! The music industry! Overacting! As NPR’s Linda Holmes said on Twitter earlier today, “Empire is very much hip-hop Nashville.” She is absolutely correct.
As the episode opens, a young woman is singing her heart out in the studio. Terrence Howard is doing his best Terrence Howard impression as he plays patriarch Lucious Lyon, trying to look pensive and profound when suddenly he has some “notes” for the chanteuse.
