Egypt steps up bird flu precautions

Health authorities in Egypt have intensified precautionary measures to contain the spread of the H5N1 avian influenza, launching vaccination campaigns across all governorates and tightening controls at land, air and sea border crossings.

In November, Egypt's hospitals entered a state of emergency after two bird flu deaths were reported in the same week, one a 30-year-old woman in Minya and the other a 19-year-old woman in Assiut, Ahram Online reported.
