Flooding and storms may have profound effects on people’s mental health (Neria, 2012).The prevalence of mental health symptoms (psychological distress, anxiety, and depression) was two to five times higher among individuals who reported flood water in the home compared to non-flooded individuals (Paranjothy et al., 2011).
According to the above quote from the 2014 IPCC Working Group I “Climate Change” report, modern science has now confirmed that people experience higher levels of anxiety and psychological distress when their homes are destroyed in a flood, compared to “non-flooded individuals.”
