Ukraine's central bank reserves have dipped below the $10bn mark for the first time since at least 2005 after making a gas payment to Russia's Gazprom, underscoring the precarious position of the country's economy.

Kiev has signed a $17bn bailout agreement with the International Monetary Fund, but the programme has been swiftly derailed by Russia's annexation of Crimea and support for eastern Ukrainian separatists.
