Ebola cases cross 10,000 mark

While global media has been highlighting the stray cases of Ebola infection to visiting Westerners, the situation on the ground in the three most affected countries -- Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone -- continues to be grim with health workers struggling to contain the disease. Over 10,000 persons have been affected by Ebola in West Africa, leaving half of them dead. The disease appears to be affecting those between the ages of 15 and 44 much more, with 61% of cases reported in this group.

Due to lack of protective equipment, 450 health workers have been affected by Ebola, of which 244 have died.
