Earth's Most Abundant Mineral Found - In A Rock From Space

For decades, scientist have known all about Earth’s most abundant mineral, lying in the thick rocky layers of the planet’s mantle deep below the surface. But although researchers have managed to synthesise the silicate mineral, no naturally occurring sample had ever been seen – until now.

The mineral has been newly dubbed bridgmanite in honour of Percy Bridgman, who won the 1946 Nobel Prize in Physics for fundamental contributions to high-pressure physics.
