From 1998 to 2009, Wayne was one of the most creative writers on Earth, and his stretch from “Tha Carter”in 2004to “No Ceilings”in 2009 was near-untouchable in terms of critical and commercial success in rap. His mountain of quality music more than makes up for his fair share of unfortunate missteps.

Also: If Wayne sounds out of date by commandeering the best beats from other artists and blabbing one-liners on mixtapes, it’s because he made the style so famous, it was parroted to death.
