Drugs used to control dementia aggression can be dangerous

Medicating dementia patients may ease the demons that trigger aggression and other behavior problems, but it also boosts their risk of dying early – even more so than previously believed, according to a new study.

Often, antipsychotic drugs are prescribed to protect caregiving staff and loved ones from violent patients or, in some cases, to protect patients from themselves.
