Drug shrinks tumors in metastatic thyroid cancer

Until now, there had been little that doctors could do to help patients with metastatic disease.

Still, it shrank tumors in 12% of patients randomly assigned to take it. By comparison, less than 1% of tumors shrank in patients taking a placebo, or sugar pill, according to a study to be released today.
