Drug-Resistant Bacteria Linked To Hospital Equipment « CBS Connecticut

(CBS Connecticut) — Hartford Hospital officials say they’ve seen an increase in the number of cultures of a drug-resistant bacteria, and have determined it may be related to their use of the same piece of equipment recently linked to two deaths at a California hospital. The bacteria in question is not the same as the UCLA “superbug,” and no deaths have been associated with the equipment here.

A statement says the bacteria in this case is known as ESBL — extended spectrum beta-lactamase E.coli — not the deadly CRE drug resistant bacteria from the California cases.
