Drops Best for Ear Tube Discharge

Antibiotic-glucocorticoid eardrops outperformed oral antibiotics in treatment of children with acute uncomplicated otorrhea after insertion of an ear tube, researchers reported.

In an open-label, pragmatic, randomized trial, hydrocortisone-bacitracin-colistin eardrops cleared the discharge within 2 weeks in 95% of children with tympanostomy tubes, according to Thijs van Dongen, MD, of the University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands, and colleagues.
