It has been a mystery to scientists as to how warm waters gets into a cold region such as Antarctic causing its ice sheets to melt. NASA even said that the catastrophic melt of the ice sheet in the region is unstoppable. To understand how it is happening, the California Institute of Technology used underwater robot dolphins to understand what is happening.

The research team used a six foot-long torpedo shaped drones that looks like a dolphin. The robotic looking dolphins can traverse the ocean with less energy and can stay in-depth for a long period. From time to time, the robotic dolphins bob to the surface to transmit data.
