Drinking alcohol in moderation may not actually benefit heart health

The belief that drinking alcohol in moderation can actually protect against cardiovascular disease is being challenged by a recent study published in The BMJ. Researchers analyzed data from over 50 studies which suggest that even moderate alcohol intake (0.6 to 0.8 ounces per day) can contribute to cardiovascular disease.

The study was an international effort involving 155 researchers from Europe, North America and Australia.
