WÜRZBURG, Germany — German investigators found a hand-drawn flag of the Islamic State in the room of a 17-year-old Afghan youth who attacked passengers on a regional train in Bavaria with an ax and a knife, the authorities said on Tuesday.
The teenager, who arrived from Afghanistan without his parents to apply for asylum last year, carried out the attack alone Monday night, said Joachim Herrmann, interior minister of the southern state of Bavaria.
