Authorities in the St. Louis-area quickly stepped up security Monday as news spread that the grand jury reached a decision in the case of a Ferguson, Missouri officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teen in August. The initial reaction following the shooting touched off nationwide protests, which is exactly what I have called on our leaders to prevent after this decision is read.

The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in St. Louis County, Mo., said the decision would be revealed at 9 p.m. ET, and gave no indication whether Darren Wilson would be charged in the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
