Don’t get stuck in this ‘Maze’

The latest, most deafening and possibly worst of the recent tide of shaky-cam dystopian fables based on some godforsaken young adult novel, “The Maze Runner” begins with an amnesiac hero, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), being sent up some kind of elevator to the Glade, a place where all the inhabitants are confused adolescent males surrounded by what look like the walls of Skull Island. Behind those walls lurk “the Grievers.”

It sounds very much like my all-male parochial high school, and it’s not pretty either. It’s “Lord of the Flies” for dummies. “The Maze Runner” is well-cast, but it’s an ill-conceived waste of time.
