It's award season and if the Screen Actors Guild Awards are any indication, this year is going to be a lot like previous years. Which is to say, yet again, the scarcity of powerful, meaningful, award-winning roles for people of color is revealed. It's the season of a white-washed red carpet.
Much has been made of the lack of diversity present in the Academy Awards. In its 86-year history only four black men have won for best actor in a leading role and only one black woman has won for best actress in a leading role.
