'Divergent' Set To Take Over Box Office This Weekend

With plenty of hype and big aspirations from distributor Lionsgate, teen-friendly fantasy film "Divergent" is in position to blow away the competition and land easily as the number one box office draw in the U.S. this weekend. While "Divergent" looks to meet blockbuster expectations, Disney's "Muppets Most Wanted" is also getting a wide release of roughly 3,000 total venues, though competition from "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" could make it difficult to resonate with family audiences. The weekend could also be the first since November that smash hit "Frozen" doesn't land near the top of the charts, breaking a streak of 16 consecutive weekends in the box office top 10.

Coming off of major success with teen audiences with both "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games," Lionsgate has high hopes for "Divergent," which is based on the international best-selling trilogy from writer Veronica Roth.
