Dennehy, Farrow lend easy eloquence to 'Love Letters'

NEW YORK — It has been nearly 25 years since A.R. Gurney's Love Letters was first, and last, staged on Broadway. In that production, Colleen Dewhurst and Jason Robards introduced, briefly, the roles of Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, who maintain a relationship from second grade through late middle-age chiefly by writing.

During the 96-performance run, Dewhurst and Robards were followed, in similarly short stints, by more than 20 other stage and screen vets, so it's fitting that the play should at last return to the Main Stem with a rotating cast of stars of a certain vintage.
