Delay of the Second Run of LHC Due to a Short Circuit in Components

A mistake happened in the magnetic part of the Large Hadron Collider which caused postpone the beginning of the second run. Repair work of such a mistake might require a lot of time – between several days days and weeks.

According to a report published online, some of the Collider’s 8 magnetic sectors experienced a short circuit, which must be fixed before the Collider starts operation. Although not a complicated job, the repair service is assumed to take some time as the sector is cryogenically cooled.
