Researchers have found that the skin lesions discovered on fish living in the Gulf of Mexico were because of Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The oil spill started on 20th April, 2010, and was considered to be the largest accidental marine oil spill in history. The disorders of skin started among fish in 2010 and became ordinary in 2011.
When the fishermen reported about a large number of animals suffering from lesions, Steven Murawski, Professor of population dynamics and marine ecosystem analysis at USF, began studying fish in the Gulf of Mexico.
