'Death of Klinghoffer' stirs controversy at the Metropolitan Opera -- but should it?

Months before its upcoming appearance on the Metropolitan Opera stage, "The Death of Klinghoffer" inspired protests. Over the summer, already dealing with the negative publicity of a possible strike, the company announced the cancellation of a planned HD transmission to movie theaters. On the season's opening night in September - an unrelated Mozart performance - demonstrators took advantage of the spotlight to voice their objections to the upcoming work.

As of this writing, a new production of the work, written by composer John Adams and librettist Alice Goodman, is still slated to go up tomorrow.
