Singer-songwriter Daryl Hall, 68, had six No. 1 hits with John Oates. Their new DVD, “Live in Dublin” (Eagle Rock), recorded last year, will be released March 31. Mr. Hall spoke with Marc Myers.
I was still living in Philadelphia in January 1971 when Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” came out as a single. His lyrics were universal and personal at the same time, and his voice was sweet but urgent. The song completely changed my thinking about singing and songwriting.
