Dangerous infection result of overprescribing antibiotics in kids, CDC says

Overprescribing of antibiotics has been getting a lot of attention with the rise of drug-resistant infections, but many parents still insist on getting a prescription for amoxicillin or zithromax every time their child has a sore throat, bronchitis, or mild ear infection—when there’s no test showing a bacterial infection like strep.

Here, though, is another reason to skip the drugs: Like adults, kids who take antibiotics face a small but real risk of developing a dangerous gastrointestinal infection with the bacteria Clostridium difficile.
