Dabigatran More Likely to Cause Bleeding Than Warfarin

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health states that patients suffering from atrial fibrillation that use dabigatran as a blood thinner are at a greater risk of bleeding gastrointestinally than the patients who use warfarin.

Senior author of the study, Yuting Zhang, explains that atrial fibrillation can cause blood clots formed in the heart to reach the blood vessels located in the brain. It is for this reason that patients are prescribed blood thinners that limit the formation of lumps and prevent strokes.
