Cyclone Pam Causes Destruction in Vanuatu

WELLINGTON, New Zealand—Tropical Cyclone Pam continues to cause havoc in the small Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, with unconfirmed reports of deaths and authorities warning of high winds, storm surges and torrential rain.

Sune Gudnitz, head of office for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said the Category 5 storm looked to have taken the worst-possible trajectory, with the eye passing directly over the country’s capital, Port Vila.
