Benedict Cumberbatch lay on a couch in Toronto's luxurious Trump Hotel. The London-born actor, 38, looked as if he were ready to spill all in analysis, but he was just conserving energy amid the hubbub of the Toronto International Film Festival where his biopic/wartime drama/thriller "The Imitation Game" generated plenty of buzz.

He soon popped back into a sitting position, brought forward by his bubbling enthusiasm for the man he portrays, Alan Turing, the genius mathematician and cryptanalyst whose work breaking the German Enigma code went a long way toward turning the tide for the Allies in World War II.
