Cruz looks to Mars, banters with Buzz Aldrin and other astronauts at first hearing as chairman

WASHINGTON — In his first hearing as chairman of the Senate Space, Science, and Competitiveness Subcommittee, Sen. Ted Cruz called for NASA to refocus on space exploration, and questioned a trio of former astronauts about a future mission to Mars.

“We need to get back to…manned space exploration and to the innovation that has been integral to the mission of NASA,” Cruz said. “We need to ensure that the United States remains a leader in space exploration in the 21st century.
