Obesity is quickly becoming more and more common; or rather, the average body size in America seems to be slightly larger, and the percentage of people in the extreme is also growing. This is proving to be a problem for auto companies because this particular population presents a situation that needs immediate remedy.
Chris O’Connor, CEO of Humanetics, the only U.S.-based crash test dummies producer, explains “Studies show that obese people are 78 percent more likely to die in a car crash. The reason is the way we get fat. We get fat in our middle range. And we get out of position in a typical seat.”
