Corning Inc. has donated high-tech components worth $1.8 million for a space telescope, which is to be launched into space by a private group. By mid 2020s, the BoldlyGo Institute plans to put its telescope called ASTRO-1 telescope into orbit. Getting the components for primary mirror of the telescope will greatly contribute towards their goal, said the group.
CEO of the institute Jon Morse says that it has started to raise material as well as cash for the project and hopes that it will cost under $1 billion.
