Cooler Pacific Has Slowed Global Warming: Study

The US researchers on Thursday said the recent global warming 'pause' was partly due to a naturally occurring cyclical cooling of the Pacific Ocean. The climate experts are confused how the rate of rising temperatures has witnessed a decline between the 1980s and 1990s, even as the emission of heat-trapping greenhouse gas from factories, power plants and cars have hit record high.

Michael Mann, a climatologist from Pennsylvania State University, said, "We know that it is important to distinguish between human-caused and natural climate variability so we can assess the impact of human-caused climate change". Mann said that Pacific seemed to be the main driver of the pause.
