Two companies that are top contenders for the Google Lunar XPrize have decided to merge their efforts into a single venture aimed at landing and roving on the Moon in late 2016.

Hakuto, the only Japanese company in the running, has concentrated its efforts on building rovers while Astrobotic, an American group based in Pittsburgh, PA, has focused its research on constructing a vehicle than can deliver payloads to the Moon.
