Coming Soon to Lake Erie: More Toxic Green Algae Blooms

According to a new algae forecast released this week, the large, slimy patches of toxic algae that threaten the health of the Great Lakes will return to Lake Erie this summer. The National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration predicts that Lake Erie's algae bloom will be smaller than the past three years, but still above average in size.

Instead of spreading out evenly across the lake, the algae is forecasted to collect of certain shorelines. In past years, the algae has clung to the western third of the lake in Ohio and southern Ohio.
