Combination of Bristol-Myer immunotherapy promises better results in treating melanoma, says study

According to a ‘midstage’ study that was presented on Monday, a combination of two of Bristol-Myers Squibb drugs that is helpful for the immune system to fight melanoma was found to promote significantly greater shrinkage of tumor compared to treatment involving only one of the two medicines. A combination of the newer Opdivo and Yervoy also contributed to a reduction in risk of the disease progression by about 60% compared Yervoy alone over a 11 month follow up in patients with advanced melanoma who were not treated previously, say the researchers.

In 72 patients who were administered the combination showed a 61% shrinkage of the tumor while 27 patients who received only Yervoy showed only 11 percentage shrinkage of the tumor.
