Christmas Bird Count helps gauge feathered numbers

For several hours Sunday at the Harns Marsh preserve, the names of birds being spotted flew from the lips of a band of intrepid birders who walked the grounds as part of the annual National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count.

"Caracara!" "There's a sharp-shinned hawk." "We've got 40 coots over here." "Look, there's a least bittern!"
