Similar to Michael Keaton in “Birdman,” writer/director/leading-man Chris Rock plays a washed-up movie star named Andre Allen in “Top Five,” in this case erstwhile star of “Hammy the Bear” action films. After becoming a star, Allen tried to be taken seriously as an actor by starring in “Uprize!,” a film about a Haitian slave revolt that triggered the slaughter of thousands of whites. He hoped it would be the “Haitian Django,” he claims. But it’s not expected to go well at the box office or with critics.

Allen, who is in recovery, visits New York City the day before he is scheduled to get married on TV to his L.A. reality show co-star Erica Long (Gabrielle Union).
