Cholesterol in foods not a concern, but lack of fruits and vegetables is, says dietary guidelines report

What we eat doesn't have to be as restricted as we once thought, and cholesterol in foods is not our enemy. Still, Americans are falling short of a balanced diet, according to a report submitted Thursday by the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In the past, the guidelines - made up of experts in the field of nutrition, medicine and public and health - have recommended that cholesterol intake not exceed 300 milligrams a day.
